Kyle Sandilands sends a warning shot to future radio rival Rove McManus

Kyle and Jackie O have some words of warning for future radio rival Rove McManus.

“GOOD luck buddy, you’re gonna need it!”

That’s Kyle Sandilands’ message to his arch nemesis Rove McManus as the two prepare to go head to head on Sydney radio next year.

Speaking to news.com.au at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards on the Gold Coast, Kyle said he was “surprised” when he was told that Rove was replacing Dan and Maz as the host of the 2Day FM breakfast show in 2016.

“I’m no fan of Rove and I’ve been saying that for a long time but I was surprised that they decided to go with someone that does scripted, rehearsed humour rather than an off the cuff, edgy show,” he said.

“Good luck to Rove, he’s gonna need it with them (Southern Cross Austereo) because they’re poor operators, but who else would they have got? There’s fu*k all people around and he’s the best of a bad bunch, so good luck buddy, you’re gonna need it.”

Kyle’s KIIS FM co-host, Jackie O, also weighed in on the former talk show host’s appointment, saying she believed he would find it a little tough to make the switch to radio.

“It’s one thing when you’ve got all week to do one TV show and put in all your resources, but doing a radio show every single day and filling it with new content, it is harder,” Jackie O said.

“He’s (Rove) done radio before so he is aware of it, but it is a lot tougher. I think TV people sometimes struggle with that side of it.”

The feud between the media heavyweights dates back to the late 2000s.

When asked in 2011 how it began, Rove was dismissive and said he “had no idea”.

“As I keep saying to people, for there to be a rivalry it has to go two ways and it’s just from him,” he said.

“I have no feelings for him either way.”

That comment didn’t go down too well with Kyle, who then spoke on his radio show about the bad blood.

“I’ll tell you what happened,” the radio star said in July 2011.

“We (Kyle and his ex-wife Tamara Jaber) used to go on Rove’s show and like everyone else I thought he was nice. And when Tamara brought those songs out a few years ago and the newspapers started caning her and lying, saying I was the only person playing it... Rove jumped on the bandwagon and started to have a go.

“So when he started sinking the boot in, I started hating him and then when Rove’s wife (Belinda Emmett) passed away, he and I met up again and he said ‘I’m sorry, I understand, I shouldn’t have gone there with the Tamara situation’,” said Sandilands.

“Then two weeks later he was an a**hole to me and Tamara on his TV show.

“Everyone thinks he’s cookies and cream when he’s a little prick ... He’s a little a**hole.”

David Beckham slams criticism over Harper’s dummy

DAVID Beckham has lashed out at critics who say his four-year-old daughter Harper is too old to use a dummy.

The ex-England star hit back at criticism saying others had no right to judge him and his wife Victoria as parents, after an article in the Daily Mail suggested the youngster was too old to still need the pacifier.

The former footballer posted a screenshot of the article on his Instagram page to his 10.1 million followers, accompanied with a message indicating his daughter had been unwell.

David Beckham lashes out

“Why do people feel they have the right to criticise a parent about their own children without having any facts??” he wrote.

“Everybody who has children knows that when they aren’t feeling well or have a fever you do what comforts them best and most of the time it’s a pacifier so those who criticize think twice about what you say about other people’s children because actually you have no right to criticize me as a parent ...”.

An expert quoted in the article claimed that the use of the dummy could mean the Beckham’s fourth child, and only daughter, could end up with speech or dental issues.

It also featured pictures of Harper walking alongside her father in white dress with fluorescent pink stars, and with a dummy in her mouth.

Victoria has remained silent on the matter so far, but the report has divided social media users.

“Right. It’s your child, not theirs. Many parents have different parenting methods,” one commenter wrote.

Another said: “Lazy parenting. Never-mind the teeth issues, it interferes with concentration and ability to learn.”

Studio 10’s Jessica Rowe: ‘Eddie McGuire made my life hell’

STUDIO 10 presenter Jessica Rowe launched a scathing attack on Eddie McGuire this morning, questioning his intelligence and saying he made her life “hell” during her brief stint at Nine.

The Network Ten panel was discussing McGuire’s most recent controversy in which he referred to the Victorian Sports Minister John Eren as a “soccer loving Turkish born Mussie” and whether or not the term “Mussie” was racist.

Rowe, who was left embarrassed in 2006 when then Nine’s chief McGuire was reported to have said he wanted to “bone” the presenter, didn’t hold back.

“To me, Eddie McGuire has form and I can talk very much from personal experience,” the 45-year-old said. “The way he has allegedly used language against me in the past and the way he has used language to describe Adam Goodes (is) highly, highly inappropriate and then to try and explain it away as ‘oh that was a brain snap or a brain freeze’ — no that is not on.”

It was back in 2013 that McGuire jokingly suggested that Goodes could help promote a musical production of King Kong. McGuire apologised shortly after his remark, which he described as a “two-second slip of the tongue”.

Rowe went on to say she did think the term “Mussie” was racist and offensive and questioned her former boss’ intelligence.

“If he (McGuire) is not smart enough — and I don’t think he is — to moderate his language depending on the sort of forum he is in, he has to take the flak for it.

“I’m sorry. I don’t have a lot of good to say about that man because he made my life hell.”

In 2005, Rowe was lured to Nine after signing a contract valued at an estimated $500,000 to co-host Today with Karl Stefanovic.

But less than a year into the role, McGuire who wanted to sack her, allegedly said: “What are we gonna do about Jessica? When should we bone her? I reckon it should be next week.”’

The Millionaire Hot Seat host, who is now Australia’s highest-paid broadcaster, denied ever using the term, despite his former colleague Mark Llewellyn signing an affidavit to say that he did.

Llewellyn, who defected to Seven told Crikey in 2011: “Not only do I remember Eddie McGuire saying what he said, I remember how he looked as he said it. Including his smirk as he used the ‘bone’ word.

“He said ‘bone’. And he used this crude term in the context of wanting to axe her from the Today Show.”

A year later, under McGuire’s watch, Rowe left Today and returned to Seven as a news presenter. She resigned from Seven in September 2013 to join Studio 10 alongside Sarah Harris, Ita Buttrose and Joe Hildebrand.

Meanwhile, The Australian has reported that player manager Peter Jess last year wrote to AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan expressing concern that McGuire had received no punishment for his on-air remarks about Goodes.

Mr Jess, an accountant who has managed the financial affairs of AFL footballers for more than 30 years including prominent Aboriginal players, said if the AFL had taken a strong stand against racism two years ago, Goodes might not have been booed this season.
