Woman jailed for posting photos of a neighbour’s nappy-wearing dog online

A WOMAN who posted photos online of her neighbour’s dog wearing a nappy and its mouth tied shut has been arrested.
The Texas resident spent 14 hours behind bars after her pictures of the pit bull mix were shared on Facebook, reports NY Daily News.
Amber Cammack says she called authorities to report the apparent “animal abuse”, but received no response. The dog, who was kept on the balcony “even during rain storms” according to Ms Cammack, was pictured with something tied around its snout and wearing a nappy.
Ms Cammack decided to take action by posting images of the dog, dubbed “Porch Pooch”, to social media.

The images were widely shared, and a few days later Ms Cammack received a call from the sheriff telling her if she didn’t remove the photos she would be arrested.
“When the sheriff himself calls you and threatens you with arrest, that is an extreme chill on your right to freedom of expression,” Ms Cammack’s lawyer said in a statement, reports Chron.com.
Authorities said Ms Cammack “had repeatedly published allegations of animal abuse on social media sites, including their personal information, their physical locations, security access information, personal vehicle information, and more”.

“I’m not a criminal,” Ms Cammack told KHOU-TV. “I was treated like a hardcore murderer-felon. I was thrown in a tank with the rest of murderers, the drug dealers,”
“I’m disgusted with the fact that I can’t report a crime and nobody’s helped the dog.”
Her arrest spurred a protest in front of the jail, with around 25 supporters holding placards opposing animal cruelty.
Despite Ms Cammack’s images, a veterinarian and animal protection investigator have declared the dog to be in good health and is now back with its owner, reports Chron.com.
“When we file charges, our charges are based on the evidence,” said district attorney Devon Anderson. “And in animal cruelty cases, our evidence comes from experts who have examined the dog.”
All the charges against Ms Cammack have since been dropped, according to NY Daily News.

Andre Nasr, once called Australia’s heaviest man, loses nearly 200kg: Sunday Night exclusive

HE was once dubbed Australia’s fattest man. Andre Nasr was obese, sick and eating himself to death. Now he has lost nearly half his body weight.
At his heaviest, Nasr topped the scales at 468 kilos and broke his couch because of his weight, saying he felt “ashamed ... that it got to that stage”.
Speaking to Seven’s Sunday Night, Nasr said he couldn’t get out of bed and had to be lifted out of his house when he fell ill and needed to be hospitalised.

But the Sydney man admitted he felt relieved “because there was finally hope”.
He revealed to Sunday Night that he has lost 199kg in about a year and now weighs 269kg. He said he did it through “a lot of hard work”, dramatically decreasing his calorie intake which had previously been about 12,000 calories a day, according toSunday Night.
At 35-years-old — and weighing his heaviest — Nasr wrote to obesity specialist Dr Nic Kormas “begging” him for help.

Nasr said he had “a love-hate relationship” with food, “an addiction” which started when he was a child. He said food was his “enemy” and his “friend” and he has since had to cut off from his parents because he believed they enabled his obesity.
“Now I want to live, I want to enjoy life,” Nasr told Sunday Night.

At his lowest point, Nasr, who spent 14 months in hospital with a life-threatening infection, said he had been “killing myself” with food.
Now, he is determined to slim down to his goal weight of 118kg.
“I can do anything I want,” he said.

Kyle Sandilands sends a warning shot to future radio rival Rove McManus

Kyle and Jackie O have some words of warning for future radio rival Rove McManus.

“GOOD luck buddy, you’re gonna need it!”
That’s Kyle Sandilands’ message to his arch nemesis Rove McManus as the two prepare to go head to head on Sydney radio next year.
Speaking to news.com.au at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards on the Gold Coast, Kyle said he was “surprised” when he was told that Rove was replacing Dan and Maz as the host of the 2Day FM breakfast show in 2016.
“I’m no fan of Rove and I’ve been saying that for a long time but I was surprised that they decided to go with someone that does scripted, rehearsed humour rather than an off the cuff, edgy show,” he said.
“Good luck to Rove, he’s gonna need it with them (Southern Cross Austereo) because they’re poor operators, but who else would they have got? There’s fu*k all people around and he’s the best of a bad bunch, so good luck buddy, you’re gonna need it.”
Kyle’s KIIS FM co-host, Jackie O, also weighed in on the former talk show host’s appointment, saying she believed he would find it a little tough to make the switch to radio.

“It’s one thing when you’ve got all week to do one TV show and put in all your resources, but doing a radio show every single day and filling it with new content, it is harder,” Jackie O said.
“He’s (Rove) done radio before so he is aware of it, but it is a lot tougher. I think TV people sometimes struggle with that side of it.”
The feud between the media heavyweights dates back to the late 2000s.
When asked in 2011 how it began, Rove was dismissive and said he “had no idea”.
“As I keep saying to people, for there to be a rivalry it has to go two ways and it’s just from him,” he said.
“I have no feelings for him either way.”
That comment didn’t go down too well with Kyle, who then spoke on his radio show about the bad blood.
“I’ll tell you what happened,” the radio star said in July 2011.
“We (Kyle and his ex-wife Tamara Jaber) used to go on Rove’s show and like everyone else I thought he was nice. And when Tamara brought those songs out a few years ago and the newspapers started caning her and lying, saying I was the only person playing it... Rove jumped on the bandwagon and started to have a go.
“So when he started sinking the boot in, I started hating him and then when Rove’s wife (Belinda Emmett) passed away, he and I met up again and he said ‘I’m sorry, I understand, I shouldn’t have gone there with the Tamara situation’,” said Sandilands.
“Then two weeks later he was an a**hole to me and Tamara on his TV show.
“Everyone thinks he’s cookies and cream when he’s a little prick ... He’s a little a**hole.”

American visitors flex bigger buying power down under

THE AMERICAN invasion of Australia predicted on the back of our weaker dollar has well and truly begun.
In June, 47,500 American visitors flocked down under — up nearly 20 per cent on the same time last year.
Year on year, figures were up nine per cent to 576,600 visitors as awareness of the greenback’s buying power in Australia grew.

CommSec senior economist Craig James said further growth was likely, with the Australian dollar tipped to fall to 72 US cents by the end of the year, and drop to 70 by mid-2016.
“Consumers always weigh up what’s the best value they can achieve, and no doubt the American travellers look for places where their dollar goes further,” said Mr James.
“Clearly, there is a fair bit of competition among international destinations, but the encouraging thing is some of the American tourists have found their way to Australia.”
A range of campaigns have targeted the US market in recent years, includingRestaurant Australia, which attracted American celebrity chefs Alice Waters and Eric Ripert down under.
Talk show hosts Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres have also staged high profile trips to Australia since late 2010, and this December, Oprah will return for a speaking tour.

Tourism Australia’s recent film highlighting indigenous tourism experiences featured an American couple, and Qantas and Virgin Australia have formed partnerships with American Airlines and Delta, respectively.
Data provided by Tourism Research Australia revealed the lion’s share of American visitors go to Sydney (310,919 in the year to March 2015), but other parts of the country were experiencing big increases.
Since March 2011, US visitors to Tasmania have soared 43.8 per cent from 16,756 to 24,097.
Tourism and Transport Forum CEO Margy Osmond said New Yorkers in particular were taken with the Apple Isle’s “wilderness”.
“Americans are drawn to Australian’s unique natural environment, wonderful hospitality and our vibrant cities and regions,” said Ms Osmond.

Melbourne also experienced strong growth, with visitors growing 38.8 per cent, and tropical north Queensland attracted more US tourists than Brisbane (89,256 compared with 72,821).
Heading in the other direction, 976,900 Australians travelled to the US in the year to June 30, up four per cent on the previous year.
Mr James said it wasn’t surprising the weaker dollar had not proved much of a deterrent to overseas travel.
“Aussies have seen wealth gains in the past 12 months,” he said.
“There’s still a modest degree of wage growth, and the job market hasn’t deteriorated that much over the last 12 months, and that’s provided a degree of confidence.”
An analysis undertaken by Expedia.com.au found New Zealand currently represented the best value for Aussie holiday-makers, and was the only country where our dollar bought more than it did a year ago
