SEVERAL Queensland towns broke their records for warmest July maximum temperatures at the weekend, but the next couple of days will be cooler.
On Sunday Collinsville in central Queensland hit 32C and Monto, south of Rockhampton, reached 30C, the previous records were 31.7 and 29.9C.
Weather bureau forecaster Steven Hadley said despite the warm weekend temperature, Tuesday and Wednesday would be significantly colder.
He said temperatures would fall to just 9C Tuesday night in Brisbane and the days would reach about 20C, which is slightly below average.
The week will be mostly sunny, however the coastline north of Gladstone can expect strong winds over the next few days.
Temperatures will rise in the latter part of the week, with Friday and Saturday expected to reach 24C.
